Blank Pages
Bands
From somewhere amid the suburban sprawl of southern New Jersey comes Blank Pages’ brand of guitar-driven power pop. Led by guitarist, singer and songwriter Greg Potter, the band created their unique brand of rock and roll for more than twenty-five years.
The Blank Pages sound is melodic, guitar-driven pop that draws influences from classic bands like the Beatles and the Kinks, new wave pop such as the Knack and Elvis Costello, and modern power pop purveyors including Matthew Sweet, Sloan and Jason Falkner.
The lineup featured Potter, Ed McCaffrey on drums, and Jason Brown on bass and guitar. Greg’s childhood friend Jon Mollenhauer has contributed lead guitar to many of the band’s releases. Past members include founding member and bassist Wayne Philipp, as well as drummers Joel Marsh and Tom Vesneski.
Blank Pages released six full-length albums and an EP on the FDR Label and has appeared on several of the label’s successful themed compilations.

Is This Real
Is this real, or is it fake?
The world is a heavy place right now and Blank Pages’ latest release is a record for these crazy times. Like its title implies, we’re often in a state of disbelief wondering what’s real and what’s fake. Blank Pages songwriter Greg Potter explores these questions through the lens of indie pop, balancing his signature melodic sound with weighty ideas. For Potter, melody is always reality, and it is unmistakable on Is This Real. A history of pop melody flows through his music blending decades: 60’s classics, 70’s power pop, 80s new wave, and 90s modern rock. While Blank Pages’ catchy songs are built on this foundation of guitar-oriented pop, they offer a 21st century sensibility that often takes them to unexpected places. With the lead single, Nagging Feeling, Potter explores that sixth sense of perceiving when someone you trust is telling lies. In Authenticity, he begs for a dose of reality in his relationships. Potter urges the world to humanize machines before they overrun our lives in Robots Will Not Win. Sonically the band covers new territory with Hiding and Seeking, an ethereal exploration of who we become in the dark with those we trust. Potter gives a nod to 80s production with the Police-influenced Before and After. And Blank Pages mines straight-ahead power pop on tracks like Waiting in Line and Laugh. Is This Real is Blank Pages’ sixth studio album featuring Greg Potter on guitar, keys, and lead vocals, Jason Brown on bass, Ed McCaffrey on drums and background vocals. Click below to listen. -

Into The Ether
When every single piece of me explodes into the ether…
After breaking a 7-year hiatus with their 2018 album Before Your Summer Fades, Blank Pages is back in 2019 with a fresh EP, Into the Ether. Songwriter Greg Potter leads the band through their ongoing exploration of melodic, guitar-driven indie pop by pairing finely crafted melodies with thought-provoking themes. This time around, their journey examines the cosmic forces that pull us together and tear us apart. The single, “Into the Ether,” is quintessential Blank Pages: an irresistible power pop track featuring tuneful guitars, swirling synths, and harmony. The song is an ode to friends with the invisible ability to bring us together. And how those ties can explode when they have gone. “Let it Flow” pairs jangling guitars with stream of consciousness lyrics that celebrate the inspiration that comes from peacefulness and our connection to others. In the acoustic-driven “Snapshots,” Potter recounts a recurring vision of a long-lost connection that spans so many years, he can no longer remember if it was a dream, or reality. The EP closes with “Welcome to the Unknown,” a tuneful rock track punctuated by vintage synths, pianos, and guitars. It brings the listener full circle: back into life’s ether where the only certainly is uncertainty. Into the Ether is Blank Pages’ sixth release on FDR Label, featuring Potter on guitar and lead vocals, Jason Brown on bass and guitar, Ed McCaffrey on drums. Before Your Summer Fades
I found a path that led me to it…
After a 7-year hiatus marked by the arrival of children and the loss of old friends, Blank Pages returns with “Before Your Summer Fades” in 2018. Greg Potter never stopped writing, and the songs the band ultimately chose for the album reflect his perceptions of middle age. While the lyrics deal with uncertainty, loss and inevitable change, the record still exudes Blank Pages’ signature melodic, power pop sound. The album took more than two years to complete and saw the band adopt a new approach to recording. Potter introduced new songs at each session for the first time to drummer Ed McCaffrey and bassist Jason Brown. Having never heard the tracks before, McCaffrey and Brown provided a completely fresh perspective to the arrangements, fostering a renewed collaboration. Potter also invited two of his bandmates from The Real Imposters to contribute to the record: Tony Monzo played lead guitar on three tracks and Bob Sworaski played piano on one. Once the live tracks were in the can, Potter spent the better part of a year mixing and overdubbing keyboards and synths to add a new element to the music. Before Your Summer Fades is the band’s most accomplished record to date, adding a new level of sophistication to the Blank Pages catalog both musically and lyrically. The album is the band’s fifth release on New Jersey’s FDR Label. Before Your Summer Fades drops on Friday, January 19, 2018. Preview the lead-off single, High Flyer, below or on our Bandcamp page. -

On My Street
Home grown pop from southern New Jersey
From somewhere amid Jersey's suburban sprawl comes the tasty pop sounds of Blank Pages. On My Street’s 13 tracks are tied together by Greg Potter’s perspective on growing up in the Garden State. His personal lyrics provide a variety of intimate snapshots of his life and the region. The title track offers an anthem for the unsung heroes who never strayed far from his neighborhood. This is Where I’m From celebrates the diminishing farmland that is slowly being overtaken by creeping suburbia. On My Street was Blank Pages’ third album on the FDR Label, released in 2007. The record features songwriter Greg Potter on guitar, keyboards and vocals, Ed McCaffrey on drums and bassist/guitarist Jason Brown, Wayne Philipp on bass and Jon Mollenhauer on guitar. -

45 and 33
The album that defined the Blank Pages sound.
For their 2003 sophomore release 45 and 33, Blank Pages moved to a professional studio and teamed with engineer Drew Mazurek (Love Nut, Greenberry Woods). While the result still offered the sweet melodies and catchy hooks of the debut, the band achieved a more confident and powerful sound. “Going into the recording of 45 and 33, we were looking for something like Matthew Sweet fronting Superdrag,” said Potter. “We recorded very detailed demos at home before entering the studio, so arrangements were well planned. We laid down all of the rhythm tracks as a live band and it gave the record a great energy.” The album stands as the band’s best seller and perhaps most critically acclaimed release. A particular point of pride was the glowing review the record received at AllMusic.com. Featuring Greg Potter on vocals, guitar, and keyboards; Ed McCaffrey on drums and background vocals; Wayne Philipp on bass; and Jon Mollenhauer on lead guitar. -

Funny Pages
Blank Pages play power pop like it's 1979.
Funny Pages, the debut album from Jersey's power pop heroes Blank Pages, features 11 tracks chock full of chiming guitars and tasty hooks. Produced at home with a laptop and minidisc multitrack recorder, the band recorded under the influence of artists like Jason Falkner, the Raspberries, and Superdrag. But when it came time to mix and arrange the tracks, guitarist Greg Potter drew inspiration from the Knack and their 1979 debut, “Get the Knack.” “I was trying to emulate the approach of that record,” said Potter. “It's not as heavy as most power-pop, with cleaner guitar tones and lots of energy from a great drummer.” That energy was provided by new drummer Ed McCaffrey, who joined the band just a month before recording began. The rhythm section was rounded out by founding Blank Pages member and bassist Wayne Philipp, with Potter handling guitars, keyboards and lead vocals. Jon Mollenhauer, Potter’s long-time musical collaborator and childhood friend, contributed lead guitars and mixed the record. Released in 2000, Funny Pages album was the band’s first official release on the FDR Label, the small NJ indie label with the big power pop heart. -
