After a 7-year hiatus marked by the arrival of children and the loss of old friends, Blank Pages returns with “Before Your Summer Fades” in 2018. Greg Potter never stopped writing, and the songs the band ultimately chose for the album reflect his perceptions of middle age. While the lyrics deal with uncertainty, loss and inevitable change, the record still exudes Blank Pages’ signature melodic, power pop sound.

The album took more than two years to complete and saw the band adopt a new approach to recording. Potter introduced new songs at each session for the first time to drummer Ed McCaffrey and bassist Jason Brown. Having never heard the tracks before, McCaffrey and Brown provided a completely fresh perspective to the arrangements, fostering a renewed collaboration.

Potter also invited two of his bandmates from The Real Imposters to contribute to the record: Tony Monzo played lead guitar on three tracks and Bob Sworaski played piano on one. Once the live tracks were in the can, Potter spent the better part of a year mixing and overdubbing keyboards and synths to add a new element to the music.

Before Your Summer Fades is the band’s most accomplished record to date, adding a new level of sophistication to the Blank Pages catalog both musically and lyrically. The album is the band’s fifth release on New Jersey’s FDR Label.
